After many fulfilling years caring for bariatric and upper gastrointestinal patients on the Central Coast, the time has come for me to retire from surgical practice. Making this decision has not been easy, as my work has always been deeply meaningful to me. I have had the privilege of supporting thousands of patients through transformative journeys — from weight-loss surgery and upper GI treatment to long-term post-operative care. Every patient I have cared for has left an impression on me, and I want to sincerely thank you for trusting me with your health.
As part of retiring, it was incredibly important to me that every patient continues to receive high-quality, safe and compassionate care. For that reason, I have chosen Dr Peter Hamer to take over my practice and continue caring for my bariatric and upper-GI patients.
Many of you may already know Dr Hamer, as he has worked alongside me locally for many years. He is a highly experienced General, Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with extensive training across world-leading centres, including the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Christchurch Hospital. He also holds advanced qualifications — MBBS, MPhil (Surg), and FRACS — and is a member of ANZGOSA and ANZMOSS, organisations dedicated to the highest standards in GI and bariatric surgery.
What has always stood out about Peter is not only his technical expertise, but his genuine compassion, humility and patient-centred approach. His commitment to evidence-based care, minimally invasive techniques, and long-term patient support aligns closely with the approach I have always prioritised.
One of the strengths of Dr Hamer’s practice is his multidisciplinary model of care. His team includes an accredited practising dietitian, a bariatric nurse, psychology support and exercise physiology services — ensuring that every patient receives holistic, well-rounded care before and after surgery. This team-based approach reflects modern, gold-standard bariatric and upper-GI care.

Warmly,
Dr Ken Wong
