After the first day or two after sleeve gastrectomy surgery, patients have usually left the hospital. Then the adventure begins! Most patients will experience a loss of hunger drive, cravings, and feel readily satisfied with small portions. I often recommend patients maintain close contact with our dietitian. The immediate weight loss is also quite variable. When I see patients at 3 or 4 weeks after gastric sleeve surgery, the weight loss can be anything from 5 to 10 kg. I encourage patients to maintain high activity levels and monitor their diet. It is important to incorporate protein into the diet so as to help maintain energy levels.
