Obese patients have more surgical complications

Posted on 19 Jun, 2011

This photo shows the belly of an obese person who has developed a large bulge on the side after a bowel operation which was conducted via a big cut below his belly button. This is known as a hernia which can be very uncomfortable.

At the Central Coast Surgery clinic, Dr Ken Wong performs most operations involving the abdomen by keyhole surgery, thereby mostly avoiding these sorts of problems. Obese patients tend to have more complications after any surgery. This is worsened if big cuts are used.
