Lap band not working

Posted on 12 Feb, 2012

In our clinic, we see a lot of patients whose lap band is not working for them. In some patients, it has never worked. We see a lot of patients who have actually gained weight after lap band surgery. Some patients have a lot of nausea, vomiting and reflux.

Dr Ken Wong and the team specialise in lap band removal and then generally we discuss what further options there are for further surgery.

This could involve sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass. However, it should be noted that revisional weight loss surgery, meaning a sleeve or gastric bypass as a secondary procedure does carry higher risks and often the weight loss is no where as good than if these procedures have been carried out as primary surgery.

Every patient is different and detailed discussions is crucial for deciding on what to opt for in terms of revisional surgery.
